As students meet in small groups to focus on each text, Hoonan demonstrates how teachers can tactfully and effectively guide these discussions. D

Here, the students work as a group to examine the text and discern the ways its themes relate to their lives. D

Sara's Weeknight Meals  "Vegged Out"  Flavorful, rich, satisfying vegetarian food? It seems impossible, but when you try these heart veggie entrees, you won't even miss the meat. Sara's Rustic Potato and Green Bean Pie couldn't be more filling - and versatile too. There's nothing bland about Spicy Mushroom Enchiladas, cooled off with a blanket of sour cream and avocado. D

Rick Steves' Europe  "Edinburgh"  Edinburgh is the historical and cultural heart of Scotland. We'll explore the castle, peek at the new parliament, dabble in the local literature, sip a little Scotch, get wrapped up in a kilt, and then stowaway on Her Majesty's yacht Britannia.G

Travelscope  "Port Aransas, Texas - Fun on the Texas' Coa"  Joseph breaks away from heat for a cooling and relaxing stay among the gentle gulf breezes of the South Texas Coast. In every season the pleasures are easy in this laid back Southern town where often the best thing to do is nothing. The active visitor has plenty to keep them busy and Joseph tries his hand at swimming, fishing, kayaking, crawfish shucking and dancing a two step or three. D

P. Allen Smith's Garden Home  "Entry"  Smith uses the Garden Home Retreat's grand front door and containers filled with herbs to demonstrate the design principle of entry. He also visits a plant in Indiana that has an exceptional recycling system.G

Ask This Old House  "Replacing a Corroded Fitting on a Water Heater; Installing a Vented Range Kitchen Hood"  Plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey helps a homeowner replace a corroded fitting on his water heater. Then Richard, along with host Kevin O'Connor, landscape contractor Roger Cook and general contractor Tom Silva ask "what is it?" Afterward, Tom helps a homeowner install a vented range hood in her kitchen. D

For Your Home  "Take The Tour"  It's almost a wrap on this season's Dream Home, but first Vicki and Sloan share some behind the scene looks at this season's project, the 5K Race for the Cure and the Bubble Ball, a black tie event that marked the official opening of the Dream Home. D

Katie Brown Workshop  "Fun Fete"  Host Katie Brown provides the essentials for a fun, feminine party: light finger foods, a chocolate treat and projects with a touch of glitz. In the Kitchen: filo triangles stuffed with feta and spinach, tea sandwiches three ways and chocolate carrot-cake cupcakes with cream cheese filling. Projects: Repurposing old trays with chalkboard paint and broken jewelry and creating birch wood cones to fill with flowers. D

Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting  "Rosie's Quilt"  Liz and Marianne demonstrate how to use the new large wedge template to make a quilt in a weekend. D

Donna Dewberry Show  "Wild Things"  A field of wildflowers looks like an advanced project but with Donna's techniques, anyone can do it. Create a throw for any sofa or bed using fabrics decorated with wildflowers. D

Cook's Country from America's Test Kitchen  "Hearty Italian Meals"  Bridget Lancaster shows host Christopher Kimball how to make Italian Pot roast. next, equipment expert Adam Reid is reviewing pizza cutters, and finally, Erin McMurrer uncovers the secrets to foolproof Baked Manicotti at home. D

Lidia's Italy In America  "California: Pasta - The Ultimate Showcase"  Lidia returns to California to visit Andy Boy farm and learns all about broccoli rabe. Later, Lidia meets up with Dino Cortopassi, owner of Corto Olive, to hear his family's colorful culinary history. Join Lidia and Grandma in the kitchen as she makes Baked Stuffed Shells, Penne with Artichokes, and Bacon Orecchiette with Andy Boy's Broccoli Rabe. D

11:00 pm 
Theater Talk  "Taymor V. Bono: The Spider-Man Case, Plus Remembering Theodore Mann"  Reporter Patrick Healy of The New York Times drops by for a "Broadway Update." We then pay tribute to the late producer Theodore Mann with an encore presentation of our 2010 interview with the Off-Broadway pioneer and founder of the Circle in the Square Theatre. D

11:30 pm 
Closer to Truth  "Is Consciousness An Illusion?"  Is consciousness something special in the universe, a carrier of meaning and purpose? Or is consciousness a mere artifact of the brain, a by-product of evolution? I hope consciousness is special, which is why I must be a skeptic. D
